im stuck on a feature article about distasteful song lyrics

  1. There are several trains of thought on how to begin a FA (I'm assuming you're talking a journalistic-style feature).

    The most common way will be to follow the inverted triangle, meaning that you start with a broad statement about distasteful song lyrics and get more specific as the article runs on. The 1st paragraph in this style (called the lead), will generally be 1-2 sentences long and no more than 35 words.

    Another popular method is to start with a very specific example (i.e talk about a specific song or someone who attacks/defends obscene lyrics) and then move into your lead. This gives it a more personal feel, and I am generally inclined to use this method in my writing.

    Some more basic tips, since you seem like a beginner in the field: keep paragraphs short and sweet. No objectivity-- it isn't an op column or editorial. When quoting a source, it's "quote," Billy Bob said... NOT "quote" said Billy Bob
