How do you start an art business online?

Question

I have no idea where to start! Do i need a license for selling art, or something with copyrights???

Anyone sell art online? have their own websight??

I have a deviantart account but im not famous enough to sell anything, and they take a percentage.

Any good advice is WELCOME!

I have been a successful working artist exclusively online for over 4 years...

So, with that, I would recommend the following steps to sell online.

1. You need to build your audience: This means collectors, fans, buyers.

The way to do this is by:

- Having a website

- Joining art communities online (ebsq for example) where you can learn and network with other artists.

- selling art in various places beyond deviantart. Try doing auctions on ebay, overstock, or artbyus. Also you can sell art at artistrising.com for royalties. They print the prints. You just upload the images for the prints and recieve royalties on each sale. Find other places where you can get their traffic. Having a website alone will mean nothing, until you gain awareness of your art.

- Consider joining places like myspace, facebook, or similar social networking sites as well as starting a blog where you post your new art, ideas, news, etc. This gets people interested.

- Those few things are effective, as long as you have a good collection of work (and it better be good) and a consistent line of work. You want to prove to people you are serious. Not a hobby artist.

There are also lots of books on this subject at bookstores in the Art section.

Hi, before you ever start your online business, first and foremost you need to have the knowledge on internet marketing.  Its not that simple and building a website and hope for sales to come in.  You can build the most wonderful website but if it does not bring in traffic, your business will not take off.

My advise is to get the right and proven resource that can guide you on how to do business online.
