How do you start playing tennis and/or swimming on the right foot?

I'm thinking of trying out for the tennis team in high school, but I have no experience whatsoever. The only experience I get is when I'm watching professionals play tennis on TV or once-in-a-while games at my local tennis court(which by the way isn't taken to seriously...my friends and I just hit the ball). I know all the rules though and I think I can be very devoted to this sport.

I really wouldn't like to join any tennis clubs because I'm too busy in school to be also juggling in a recreation sport. This goes for the same in swimming.

I also want to start swimming, but in this case, I don't have any experience nor do I know the rules. However, a friend of mine, who has been on a swimming team, said I had a chance to do it and I was a fast swimmer. Any suggestions on these two sports?

  1. im a junior and this will be my 3rd year of high school tennis. i started off exactly like u except i didn't even know the rules haha and now im on varsity (: i think you would do fine at tennis especially if u know the rules and everything u'll probably feel a lot better then other girls just starting. with swimming i tried it out for 2 weeks but it was a lot harder then i had expected and is a lot of work. its just my opinion but i think tennis is so much more fun then swimming and you also get to enjoy the sunshine with tennis (: good luck with either decision!

  2. Tennis is very unforgiving. I highly recommend taking lessons or going to USTA held summer sessions. Learning the skills the right way will help you immensly in the long run in tennis. Good luck and have fun!
