i know how to do basic strokes and float in water. (basically, i've taken the beginner lessons at my local swim center) i haven't swam at a very deep pool in awhile. I was wondering how do you stay at the top of the pool. Is there a special "kick" you should do with your legs? I remember my dad telling me you kick your legs out (like a v shape), like trying to kick the water away from you.

If there's an easier way, please tell me.

Thanks.

Btw, I know that when you jump in a deep pool. You should automatically kick, vertically and keep your legs together and your feet pointed.

  1. tread water by kicking your legs back and forth like you are doing the kick for freestyle.

  2. You just need to keep moving your legs and arms, keep swimming, don't stop for even one second. Its call treading.

Okay so I am only 5ft tall and today i went to a water park and went down this water slide. The slide was really small but u end up landing in 12 ft water!! i almost drowned and i was just trying to get up but i panicked and started jumping all around the place. I couldn't see anything and I thought nobody saw me and I was fighting a life and death situation. Suddenly, a lifeguard came and rescued me. I was very thankful to her.

So my advice is to always go swimming with someone you trust in a deep pool in case you are drowning. And yeah you should kick your legs and stroke your arms with a lot of pressure to stay up. Good luck!! =] <3

  3. i just start kicking my legs all over the place and sometimes move my arms too

  4. It's called "treading water."

Your arms extend out, flat hands, palms facing inward, smoothly and forcefully bring arms toward each other , barely crossing like a figure-8, and push the palms away from the body.

At the same time, the legs are moving like scissors... but more like riding a bike with when pumping the pedals a couple of times and then coasting for a second.

  5. Tread water by moving your legs like you are riding a bike

  6. tread water
