  1. take a 10 min break at least every 2 hrs-get out, walk around, breathe deep.  change drivers every 4 hrs is good.  do not use recirc on heater or aircon.  keepcar temperate, not hot, be a little uncomfortable, stop and sleep after 8 hrs for at least 8hrs.   take it easy,  don't stress, and drive within your abilities.  a few hours late is better than dead.  feel tired-rest.   cool breeze on face helps.  No alcohol, no drugs, no smoking.   keep hydrated.  moderate eating.

  2. As a truck driver I find that keep looking around is one of the best ways, don't start staring at things. Keep a bottle of water handy. Don't listen to "soothing" music, find a Talk Radio station, if you don't have a C.B. radio, you can get a hand held one to listen to, when you listen to conversations, it keeps your interest and a couple of hours will go by before you know it. Keep the driver side window open 3-4 inches(even if it's 5 degrees outside)  Above all, if you yawn more than a couple times, get out, get a drink, walk around.

  9. Gotta reach back a whole bunch of years for this one.  I never missed a rest stop.  When I was a single young fella I would get out of the car, walk around a lot, do some blood moving exercises and brew some dynamite 'C' ration coffee on the old tanker stove.  After I married and we had kids...well I know a lot of motels on the 8/10/20/30/81N/84E route.  God it was good to be young!
