How do you stay boyant in water with feet and hand tied behind your back?

  1. Easy.  Control your breathing.  If you can keep your lungs inflated most of the time, your overall density will be less then the surrounding water and you'll float.

    Exhale quickly.  You'll start to sink just as your lungs are about empty, then quickly, but fully inhale and you'll bob back up.  Hold your breath for as long as you do so comfortably.  This works best if you can float mostly upright and slightly on your back.  You won't need to tread water at all.  You can float, be completely motionless and still keep your nose above water, and easily stay that way for hours.


  2. Just float, with your legs tied together they still work, just more like a tail. I bet it would be easy to swim that way.

  3. This answer is under the assumption that you'd be fully clothed, with boots, making floating on your back impossible, as well as being in water that is not mirror smooth, making it mighty hard not to get a facefull of water while trying to keep your nose above water:

    Inhale deeply before you hit the water. Bend your head forward and roll your shoulders inward towards your chest as much as possible, while keeping a slightly bent forward position of your knees.  The air in your lungs will push you upwards to the surface with the back of your head and neck just out of the water ( known as the dead man's float ). Continue to hang in this position as long as possible,  when you need more air, quickly move your head backwards, kicking your legs forward and down and expelling the remaining air as your face breaks the water. Inhale deeply. You'll sink slightly again, just repeat the process. A person in reasonable shape can keep this up for about a half hour before getting too tired to continue.

    Then again, maybe the exercise will include the wearing of life jackets, making it a piece of cake.

  4. Take a deep breath, Try this experiment, blow out all the air out of your lungs until you can't anymore and don't breathe in anything, and jump into the pool, you will float to the bottom, i think this has something to do with the lungs on how you float..
