How do you stay fit when you're hurt?

I just had surgery on my ankle and I cannot exercise. How do I stay remotely fit while I am confined to the couch?

Also, do you have any soup recipes? The meds I am on are tearing up my stomach.

Thanks!!

  1. I wouldn't worry about it. Just eat less and you'll stay at the same weight. Walk when you can.

  2. can you go swimming because that would be great exercise

but if your couch bound practice tensing your muscles, it wont burn up calories magically but at least its something

    good luck

  3. you might do some exersizes that don't involve your foot                   i don't have any soop sorry

  4. Seriously, I suggest you do nothing. That way, your ankle will heal faster and the sooner you can get back into exercising. However, if you still want to try, try some ab workout. Raise your legs slightly while lying flat on the floor and hold the position. Your legs must be straight and you should feel tension in the lower abs area. Also, try stretching your upper body.

    Good luck

  5. You better head to the gym...don't let that injury slow you down but so much...I broke my right heal nearly in half and did not elect surgery. I had a portable cast on that I could take off, but in order to even stand It must stay on. I still went to the gym and worked the entire left side of the body including left leg. I did all other movements sitting down. I couldn't do any movements that loaded that heal...but that's just one part of the body...there's lots of others to work..Yes I had trouble driving with that foot because my car has a console so I couldn't use left foot on the gas..I make a special shoe for my right foot with heaving wrapping and worked the break with my left foot...it did not stop me form working out..stay with it...there's a lot you can do..it just depends on how dedicated you are.

  6. swimming if your not in cast

and soup recipes i have loads, heres two

    butternut squash soup

so just make a basic soup recipe with onons, carrots, celery and a potato.

Then chop up the squash you dont have to peel it just take out the seeds.

add to the pot with a pint of chicken or veg stock

simmer untill squash is cooked soft

add a tablespoon of curry powder

    teaspoon of cumin

    salt and pepper

    then blend smooth.....................................

    Tomato and basil soup

sweat 2 cloves of garlic in a pot

add a tin of chopped tomatoes

    tablespoon of tomato puree

    1/2 teaspoon sugar

dash of wooster sauce or red wine

a hand full of fresh basil

    1/2 pint of veg stock

    simmer for 10 mins

    Then blend smooth.....

    hope you like them.........

  7. Try doing things that dont involve your ankle, or pressure on your ankle.

Weightlifting is an excellent calorie burner. By your name ill assume you are a girl (sorry if your not)

Even if you are a girl and dont want to look like a body builder you can still do weights.

Light weights high reps will tone your body which is good for girls who want to look good, but not bulky.

This won't necessarily keep you 'fit' but it will prevent fat gain etc. and will enable you to get right back onto your feet after you've healed up.

  8. Easy, by doing absolutely nothing! The less you do the quicker you will heal, and the quicker you can get back into the exercise.

  9. Ankle surgery can leave you pretty immobile, simple muscle exercises shouldn't hurt and help to keep you fit.

    Exercises-

Move your arms in a running action

Lift your uninjured leg up and down to waist height

Move your arms from your side up to above your head and then down again in a big motion.

Bend and straighten your uninjured leg

Rotate your uninjured ankle in circles, to keep it strong.

Try to move around as much as possible, obviously this is painful but even moving around for 30 minutes  day will do good.

Chicken soup is good- sorry no recipe =)
