How do you stop a cat from meowing so much?

Question

My new cat meows constantly, especially very early in the morning (3-4 a.m.)! Nothing is wrong with her, she just seems to want attention. I counted 17 meows in one minute! She has very different meows, sometimes they are high-pitched shrieks and sometimes they sound like weird little chirps.

YOU DONT ITS NICE, I LOVE IT WHEN ANY OF MY 5 MEOW.  BUT SOMETIMES ITS A SIGN OF CONTENTMENT, DISAPPROVAL OR EVEN (AND DONT GET WORRIED) PAIN. CHIRPING IS CONTENTMENT. THATS NICE. I WOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SHRIEKING THOUGH. MAYBE IF ITS A SHE SHE COULD BE READY FOR MATING, OR IF A MALE HE CAN SMELL A FEMALE SOMEWHERE CLOSE.

ever since i got my kitten, i scolded him everytime he meowed. now, he only meows when something is wrong. it might be a little late for your cat since they are six, but just say no and point at them everytime they meow

The only thing you can do is keep a squirt bottle by your bed, and use it when he/she meows.  Another thing, is to play with your cat before bed for about 30 minutes.  It will help tire the kitty out and keep it from getting bored and meowing for attention.  Also keep toys where it can get to them, and hide treats to keep them hunting.  My Russian Blue does this all night, and no amount of behavior modification helps, so I've learned to just shut my bedroom door, and turn on the fan so I don't hear it as much.

I used to have a 4-month old persian. She used to meow the whole time. First I thought she only did when she was hungry or thirsty. But she never stopped meowing even after I fed her. I called her previous owner and he told me that he used to pamper her a lot and she got used to being carried around most of the day. I tried it and it worked. As soon as i picked her up the meowing stops. She never slept unless I was right next to her on the couch. So i guess your cat is also spoiled just like mine was=) It's really cute when she's always following you around the whole day doing those sweet kitty things cats do =P

I think you should give her what she wants cause sometimes they get scared  or bored and all that stuff so you can rub her stomach till she falls asleep.
