  1. I asked my vet this same question. he said neutering helps.

  2. Get him fixed!

  3. is he intact?

if he is intact, do U intend to gene-screen before breeding?

if U are not going to gene-screen and test, desex him.

OFA or penn-HIP joints, CERF certificate, and any breed specific ailments are minimal screens, plus Brucellosis clearance.

if U intend to screen, test + breed, then belly-band him -

ALL the time, except when outside to toilet.

take it off, he pees on Ur home property, put it on, he goes for a walk - sniffing is fine, no leg-lifting allowed.   easy rules to recall!

    :-)

if U do not intend to breed, schedule a desex -

and meantime, belly-band him as above.

check the panty-liner at least 3x daily; change at least 1x daily, even if it is dry, to eliminate bacteria build-up.

    neutered-Ms can still mark -

so the belly-band will be needed for some while post-desex.

certain triggers may cause him to leg-lift in the future - a visiting M dog, a M dog seen to leg-lift outdoors from inside the house, etc.

just be sure to limit his outside POV to the street - this cuts the dog's feeling of intrusion or invasion by other dogs, and desire to mark to make them go away/reassure himself.

  4. Neutering helps but doesn't always solve the problem completely. Your best bet is to get him neutered and make him wear a "Belly Band" while indoors. He'll pee in that rather than all over your furniture plus he may get tired of peeing on himself and will eventually stop lifting his leg in the house.

  5. Neutering may help but not always.  You can buy or make a strap that covers his "area"  and velcros around his mid section.  I used one and the dog still did the leg lifting but he at least peed in the strap.    I followed him constantly and corrected him at every turn.  It was a total pain.

  6. the vet. told me getting him neutered would help but i didn't want to do that to my dog so what really help to fix this problem for me was time. kinda sucks but it just took time i put him outside while i was gone (create works too if you don't have a yard) and just watched him when he was inside really what it is is lack of potty training once they know that they can't go to the bathroom inside they quit.
