How do you stop a squeaky door from squeaking?

My door is a horrible squeaker. It will literally wake you up when your sleeping and someone opens it. When I'm on the phone and I close my door people are like "Is that your door?". I just want the sqeakyness to stop, but by not replacing the door. My friend says 409 (the brand) works, but I don't know. What would stop it?

  1. If you have not got any WD40 smear a little vaseline on the hinge.  Wipe with tissue after.  May be next day you notice it is cured, not quite as quick as WD40.

  2. take the door off

  3. Is your door touching the floor? if so, remove the hinges and plane the lower part. If the squeak is coming from the hinges, no need to buy W40, you can use cooking oil instead.

  4. try wd-40 or some silicone lubricant

  5. WD40 on the hinges will do the trick.

  6. That's an easy one.  Go to almost any store and buy some W-40 lubricant.  It comes in a blue spray can.  The smallest size is all you need.  Put the little straw thing in the sprayer, and spray in all the cracks on both hinges.  Hold a paper towel or something underneath, so it won't drip on the floor (it's slippery!).

For a temporary fix, you could even use some cooking oil or baby oil.

Formula 409 is a cleaning product, not a lubricant.  I think your friend got mixed up between it and WD-40.

  7. spray wd-40 in the hinges til it stops squeaking.
