  1. Decent shorts, and avoid cotton underwear like the plague (go for merino wool or a technical wicking material).  Vaseline is all very well if you really want your shorts to honk badly regardless of how many times (and how hot) you wash them!

  2. I had to look it up, but it seems "Chaffing and winnowing" is a cryptographic technique to achieve confidentiality without using encryption when sending data over an insecure channel, so I would suggest if this is what you mean that if you don't take any kind of data transmitting device with you and make sure the bicycle hasn't been fitted with one, then you'll be fine.

On wiki it says: "Chafing when used as a nautical term describes the process of wear on a line or sail caused by constant rubbing against a hard, usually metallic, surface. Various methods are used to prevent chafing. Chafing of lines that rest on a chock on a boat can be prevented by putting a protecting material (sometimes as simple as a piece of old garden hose) around the line. Chafing of a sail rubbing against a cable can be prevented on large ships by tying baggywrinkle around the cable".

  3. Just build up your riding distance slowly

I can ride 120 Miles in one day easily with no chaffing

    ( I am male ) ignore my user name ( I am not a dog either )

  4. vaseline, slap it on.

  5. Don't wear underwear with your cycling shorts.

You ARE wearing bike shorts, right?

If the above doesn't fix it, try BodyGlide, Chamois Butt'R, or another chamois cream. Keep the area CLEAN, or try a different seat that fits your anatomy better.

  6. using baby powder jelps to keep the area dry.

  7. Chamois Butt'r rocks. I swear by that stuff and use it on every bike ride I ride that's over 100 miles. Most bike shops should have it or a version of it.

  8. Buying a better pair of cycling shorts would be helpful.

Your seat may not be the correct shape for your body.

Or, you may just need to ride more.

A good bike shop should be able to help you determine what the problem is and how to resolve it.

Some people have this problem habitually, no matter how much they ride! There is an excellent product made called Chamois Butt'r. I know lots of cyclists who have used it with excellent outcomes:

  9. Don't ride two abreast

  10. In addition to using cycling shorts, and a good saddle, using products made specifically to prevent chafing, such as Assos Cream (yes, really) help tremendously.  Go to a real bike shop, not a box store, and check out the products.

  11. Cycling shorts, and a proper saddle eliminate the problem unless you're doing extreme distances several days running (think TDF).

  12. Mate,  Get the best cycling shorts you can afford with a good chamois insert.  I have just got back into mountain biking single track XC after a lengthy layoff (kids!) and was suffering.

Because I look daft in lycra, I wear some cool baggy shorts over the top of the lycras and have had chaffe free riding ever since!

       Hope this helps!

  13. Bike shorts are made to stop chaffing.

However....since I'm one of those guys that will not be caught dead in bike shorts, I use chamois cream (like Bag Balm).

Also, have you thought of investing in an upgraded saddle?
