My son gets them really bad. We got some steroid cream from the General Doctor. It works for a while but I don't want to have to put it on him for the rest of his life. Is there anything natural? should I take him to a dermatologist? He is almost 4. regular lotion does not work.

  1. A healthy diet and plenty of water sounds great and I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes here but please be aware that lots of kids with eczema have allergies to fruit. I have two sons that have the condition pretty severely and one son has allergic reactions (and worse outbreaks) from banana, green apples and especially citris fruit. My oldest son is 15 and was diagnosed before turning one. We went to allergists, dermatologists, pediatric specialists...etc. and never got any relief just huge bills and new meds. He was put on the steroid meds until the docs ran out of any new ones to try. We dusted and vaccumed every day, withheld proteins like eggs and peanuts, took all the stuffed animals out of his room, only dressed him in cotton clothes, lotioned him to the point of ruining his sheets and still ....no relief. I started researching all the natural stuff and the RX meds I'd been putting on him and was horrified to see all the side effects of the steroid creams. I took him off all of it and decided not to use them on my younger son. I watched very carefully to see if my younger son's condition was worse and I swear it was exactly the same. It's like the steroids did nothing but thicken my older sons skin. Then one day when he was around twelve and starting puberty, the outbreaks just stopped. When he did get some irritation it was nothing like it was. My younger son is now 11 and I'm hoping and praying for the same thing to happen. My older son still has dry skin and has to be careful of soaps and lotions with fragrance but otherwise looks normal. Please feel free to add me to your contact list if you want to email. I've been through it and I know how hard it can be to watch a little guy go through. Some lotions that have helped both boys are Lubriderm unscented, DML (may need to be ordered) and CereVe (this is a new one). Absolutely no soap! Use a soap-free cleanser and Aveeno unscented baby shampoo. There are so many tips I can give you but this is getting really long.

  2. Ensure that your son eats a lot of a wide variety of fresh, raw, fruits and vegetables: especially bright color fruit and vegetables inclusive of green leafy vegetables.  Also give him a lot of home made fruit and vegetable juices.

He also need to drink 8 - 10 glasses of water each day.
