How do you stop hiccups? ?

  1. This has never failed me, and i have used this for the last 20 years.

    1. hold your breath for 15 seconds

    2.(still holding your breath) drink about 5 swallows of water

    3.continue to hold your breath for another 15 seconds.

    do this and i GUARANTEE you wont have your hiccups anymore.


  2. The way that I do it (which works most of the time) is by holding my breath and swallowing three times. I've also heard of people frightening you out of it. And another thing I've tried is not swallowing for a period of time. But the first one usually does it for me.  

  3. I put a teaspoon full of sugar in my mouth and let it dissolve and swallow. It works for me.

  7. Invert yourself- like stand upside down or lean over a chair so your neck is upside down from how it normally is, then swallow some water. Swallowing upside down makes the muscles that make you hiccup quit doing that.

  8. I have always had HORRIBLE hiccups.  The only thing that helps me is eating a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter.  You have to get a heaping tablespoon-full and eat it all at one time.  I have no idea how or why this works - maybe it's all mental, but it cures them every time.

  9. Doesn't always work but MOST of the time when I have hiccoughs if I hold my breath and try to swallow my spit as often as I can before breathing again (at least three times), and then breathe out in a nice slow controlled breath when I really can't hold it anymore, it usually stops them.  I don't know exactly why this works but I'm wondering if it moves whatever gas/food/etc is in your gut along so that it's no longer irritating your phrenic nerve.  Of course there are all the other ideas too like eating a spoonful of sugar, drinking a glass of water while holding your breath, a surprise/fright, holding your breath, etc, etc too.
