  1. get a squirrell proof bird feeder from b and q or your local garden centre

  2. The only way to stop squirrels from eating your birdseed, plants, and fruits/vegetables is to feed them.  Cats, dogs, squirrel repellent, poison, traps, shotguns, and yelling at them doesn't work.  If you get rid of the squirrels by killing them, another squirrel family will simply move in.

My property backs up on a wooded area.  I bought a squirrel feeder for the far corner of my yard http://www.flickr.com/photos/21211516@N0... and keep it full of black oil sunflower seeds.  In the two years since I put it up, the only time the squirrels have gone farther into my yard is when their feeder was empty.  Many of my neighbors have since followed my example.

Even though I have suet feeders (which squirrels love) in trees close to my house, the squirrels stay at their own feeder and don't bother me.

Squirrels are territorial, so this won't attract even more squirrels.  The squirrel family that has already claimed your yard won't let other families in.

  3. Put out some squirrel food as well , god , that was hard.

  4. Stop putting out seed for the birds.

  5. buy a feeder with a metal squirrel proof cage around it and secure the lid with strong wire, you'll have endless fun watching the squirrel get frustrated trying to get at the seed! (they go berserk!)

  6. what's wrong feeding them too.they are allot of fun to watch..they even eat from your hand..they do mind all the time..their cute too.put enough out for both..or lay some nuts out for them that have no salt on it..you would enjoy them too..

  7. .22 rifle

  8. OK, I live near woodland and the problem is the squirrels demolish the nut/seed feeders at an alraming rate.

I bought steel feeders that were advertised as squirrel proof but they managed to remove the wire mesh and get to the nuts.  I decided to put food driectly on the window sill but still they managed to climb and eat the seed.  So...

I bought something called a nut basket - square made only of steel mesh and cost about £3.50 each - as opposed to the £15 or so for the 'squirrel proof' ones.  They have been here for nearly 2 years and although one of them is now showing signs of damage by squirrels they are still functioning.  Good news is they are big enough to attract woodpeckers too.

Still haven't found anything suitable for seed though.  we still feed on the windowsill.

    good luck

  9. I have heard if you put ground up hot pepper in the feed it will chase away the squirrels.

  10. I put plenty of nuts and seeds on the ground, it seems to keep them happy and they don't need to raid your feeders.

  11. I had problems with the squirrels eatting my birds food. If you go to a home depot or lowes, in the section where they sell the bird seed you will find bags of dried corn cobbs. You can either buy the little rack that you attach to a tree to place the cobb in or find the biggest nail you have in garage nail it into a tree and snip the head of it off and put a corn cobb onto the nail. You could also put a post in the ground and make your own shelfto attch to post with some kind of spike to attach the corn cobb to. If you do either or make sure corn cobbs are put on several trees.

  12. Kick them in the nuts!
