How do you stop the typing in the search area from poping up everytime you put a letter in?

I know how to delete them? but how do you put a stop to it? I have been on other pcs and they dont. but my does always till I delete them. so there must be a setting to stop letting every time u time a letter in every search prev . pops up. (in google, yahoo. ask.com? etc.) any help????
