Question:

How do you store hard drives?

I have multiple, some old IDE and newer SATAs

I want to keep them offline and on only when transfer files.

What is the best way to keep them all together and safe some space? I think external enclosures costing nearly $40 each for a drive of less than $50 is wasting both space and money.

  1. Wow, I can't understand why your prices are so high? Try this link and scroll down the page to look at all the enclosures and prices.  You'll find that you won't have to spend all that much.

Other than that. When dealing with hard drives, unless they are encased they should be placed in an anti-static bag... Hope this helps. Good luck.

  2. I use a plug in caddy to swap drive over IDE type

  3. get some really cheap (not too power hungry) second hand PC. You can put all the HDD's there and use it as your file server. If you have a router at your home, you can put it in the LAN while blocking any internet traffic to it. And voila - a convenient way to both utilize your old HDD's and have a extra storage place.

    Cheers!
