How do you strap a snowboard on top of a car's luggage rack?

I have a snowboard and a car (Toyota Rav4) with a luggage rack on top. I was wondering what's the easiest way to strap snowboards on a luggage rack. I don't want to buy any additional racks. I would just rather buy some ropes, tie downs, etc.

  1. You could use bungie cords, but the best way to carry and lock up a snowboard on top of the car is a Thule snowboard rack - I have one of these and it clamps to yours existing rack and you can tote and lock up to 4 boards

About $100 (I bought mine used on eBay for $40) and very nice.

    Good Luck

  2. yea it be better to put it in your car, but if u leave the bindings on then run the rope through the bindings and make sure the bindings are screwed in tight

  3. dont its better if you put it in the car

  4. You really shouldnt risk it but seeing as I cannot stop you from trying so I will give you a reccomendation as to a method  of  strapping down your board, I would remove the bindings and put them in a seperate bag in the car with the bolts and all in a ziplock so they do not get lost. The bindings are easy to put back on. Put the board in a board bag and run ropes through the bag's handles. Be sure to remove the shoulder strap from the bag as not to loose it. Use the ropes to tie the board bag to the car as you would tie a christmas tree to your roof. Alternatively, you can remove the bindings and put the board flat underneath the seats or at the person in the back's feet because it will be just like the floor on account of it will be flat.
