  1. Your employer should have given you a P60. Send this with a covering letter asking your HMRC office to review the tax year for you.

You can find your office at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/local/individuals...

  2. You don't need a Tax Return for this if you are employed. Very few employed people come within the self-assessment criteria, and believe me, you don't want to. If you are self-employed, you will have been sent a Return, anyway.

You can imput P60 details into www.listentotaxman to check position. If you have overpaid, send form P60 to tax office, with a request for a computation, and repayment of any tax overpaid. Tax office would probably pick up any overpayment at some point, but probably not until next winter.

  3. the tax office will it return it to you automatically if you have overpaid you dont need to do anything as far as filing a tax return goes you can do it on line at hmrc.gov.uk or your accountant will submit it for you if you have one

  4. get in touch with your tax office. show them everything you have to prove the overpayment. If possible it is better to go to the tax office.
