How do you successfully paint over a recently painted wall?

I have recently (about 3 months ago) painted my entire house in magnolia. Yesterday I touched up on a few marks on the wall which had been scuffed/ knocked. You can now see the patches that I have painted over and it looks awful! How do I avoid this in future? And any ideas on how I can improve on what a mess I have made??

You will have to repaint the whole wall. You cant spot in when the paint has been on the wall  for 3 months, if its been a week or so you can (not silk though). Paint will change colour the longer its on the wall.

You can avoid this by using a primer tinted a shade or two lighter than the finish coat. What you are seeing is called "flash".

Rather than touch up small spots, which will flash, you can avoid this by painting the affected wall again.  Stop at the corner, and you won't notice the difference.  Otherwise, you can wait a month or two to allow the paint to cure and blend with the rest of the wall.  Good luck.

I had the same problem with Magnolia, you should go for a shade instead, the problem with magnolia is the room is dirty (not being rude)and now the fresh paint stands out like a sore thumb.

Think you might have to re-paint your whole house lol x

Magnolias vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Paint also changes colour the longer it is on the wall.

If you want to chance your luck, use a small (clean) kitchen sponge and dab on layers of paint in a minimal way.

Don't forget to stir the paint first. My brother once had a part when we were on holiday and some1 got spilled coked all over his wall. When we got back we noticed straigh away becasue it was a shade lighter haha. Bascially he forgot to stirr the paint before using it, however i realize this may not be the cause of your problem .
