  1. Start with a long board more stability, you want a spilling wave they have more of a surge and is safer for beginners (you can tell cause the top spills over), lie on your board in the sand and start paddling then jump up this should be a smoother one move (push your body up and kick your legs underneath you) keep you body centre so you don't fall off. practise this for a few times before heading to the water. Once you ready paddle out strong strides past the breaking point, watch for surges once you see one paddle fast you need to be in front of the wave you will feel the wave pick up your board, once you feel the tip rising jump up like you did on the beach, keep your weight centre or you will fall, ride your wave in and do it again. good luck

  2. What I did was just ask my friends to take me to surfing. I rented softtop board (about $10 to $15 for four hours. $25 and $30 a day) Make sure to go to sand beach. Rock beach will kill you...

First, he made me look at how other surfers surfed and how wave moved. Then I practiced how to paddle and get up on the board at the beach. Then we went to the ocean and he pushed my board when the white wave came.  I tried about three or four weekends until I got up on the board by myself.

Then I went to buy a soft top fun board. Right now, I just go every weekend to practice more. I probably switch to short board once I feel comfortable enough with fun board.

I'm sure it's eaiser to find surfers around you since you are man....so good luck. =)

  3. 1. The longer the board, the easier it is to learn.

    2.  Start to paddle well before the wave reaches you in order that you get in sync with the flow of the wave.

    3.  Once you feel the lift of the wave (the board will rise and move with the wave), stand up and shift your weight either left or right, whichever is more natural to you.

    4. Ultimately, you will find yourself moving parallel to the face of the wave.  This... is surfing.

  4. Ask A Surfer

  5. Paddle into the wave and once you catch it stand up.  This will take lots of practice.  You could always hire someone to teach you.

  6. take lessons :)

  7. Take some lessons, buy a board, and practice, practice, practice.

It usually takes a pretty long time to get good at surfing (years), unless you live somewhere where the waves are good all the time, like Hawaii.

  8. Take some lessons, go all the time. Go here http://www.surfline.com/surfology/surfol... and have fun.
