I wish to establish a Neighbourhood Watch scheme with An Garda Siochana in my area and require advice on how to collect the necessary survey of people to have a Watch group formed.

Has anyone done this before or are there any suggestions?

  1. Find some curtains that you can peep through without being seen and supply them to all the nosey Biddies in the area.

Go to the local Garda station and after they have beaten you up, swore at you and insulted your mother - get to h**l out of there as fast as you can.

My granny used say ' "Two things you can never trust, a bull or a guard".

  2. Sometimes the gards(God love'em)aren't so easy to get hold of in a hurry so it might be a good idea to have a voluntary list of individuals willing to respond to an emergency or 'worried neighbour' call.Their phone numbers could be made available as quick response numbers in the event the gards aren't available.

Compile a list of single occupant and vulnerable dwellings.Ensure these people are checked on by phone or by visit regularly.

There may be grants available for locks for the elderly etc .check it out.If not lobby local businesses ,raise the cash locally etc.

Put up notices-WARNING!-This is an neighbourhood watch area!

  3. Just round up all the nosey parkers in your neighbourhood.

They'll only be too willing to help!
