Take all the elements of a scene that will comprise your picture, and remove all the elements that are less than "good". Focus on what looks good, of course, but switch to the mode of focusing on what looks bad. Mess with the scene until you no longer see any bad - the rest can't help but to be good.

It's a bit like the Bhuddist "carved elephant" proverb (i.e., "To carve an elephant from stone, you simply take a piece of stone and remove everything from it that isn't the elephant" - "To make a good picture, take a raw scene and remove everything from it that isn't part of the good picture you're intending to take.")

try to learn as much technique as you can.. each mode has their own use.. and make sure the angle is good too.. the most important thing is that you know what you wanted in that pic.. dont just snap blindly just to make something's in there..

i guess.. i'm not a photographer.. but i do edit pics for photographers.. i've seen so many skills..
