How do you take off the percent on a regular price?

Like I have this coupon and it is to take 20% off any item at the store. But I want to know how much that would be of $10.99 so that when I get there, I could have enough money.Please help!

  1. multiply the price(10.99) by what you will pay(80% aka 0.80).

    8.792

    but dont forget tax!


  2. $10.99 X .80 = $ 8.79 plus tax

  3. here's an easy way to do this in your head.

    10% is the same as moving the decimal left once. so 10% of $10.99 is $1.099 which rounds up to $1.10

    then multiple that by 2 to get $2.20 savings

    so $10.99 - $2.20 = $8.79 spent.

    but you then have to add tax to $8.79 and I don't know what your tax rate is or what is taxed in your area

  4. Multiply the retail price by the percentage such as .20 x $12.00 = $2.40.  That is your discount.  Subtract the discount from the original price $12.00 - $2.40 = $9.60.  That is how much you will need before any sales tax.
