How do you take out the hard drive on a desktop computer?

  1. Find the manufacturer's website, go under Support, search for your model and download the Users Manual.

  4. Open up the CPU Unit,...and take out the hardrive.

    There are small screws located on the back of you're system.Unscrew them,..and slide out the side panel to look inside

  5. switch off pc, pull plug out of back, take both case covers off, locate hardrive, pull out all cables, unscrew the retaining screws, pull out, you now have a hardrive in your hands!

    DO NOT DROP!

    and when you put it back in make sure you plug everything in correctly and s***w in all screws

  6. switch off pc ,,, unscrew case ,,, find the hard drive,,, disconnect ribbon connector,,,take out retaining screws,,, remove hard drive

  9. Open up the case/tower and then look for the Hard Drive.  First, make sure the computer is totally shutdown.  Second, open up the case/tower.  Once you find the hard driver, unplug everything that's attached to the hard driver and then unscrew the nut and then take out the hard drive.


  10. Unscrew the cover of the computer housing. Pull of the ribbon cable to the drive. Unscrew the drive and remove.

    Disconnect from mains before doing any of the above.

  11. They vary but in most cases there are a couple of screws that hold it in place in a caddy that once removed allow it to slide out. Some have ingenious clip devices that mean you don't need to remove the screws. Often there are pictures inside the case to show you what to do. Additionally you need to remove the cables from the back of it.
