How do you take pictures like this?

I truly admire this photographer.

I want to get into photography myself but I know little of the technical settings of a camera. Does she photoshop them or is it from a setting on a camera? I know more about the art direction of a photo than using the actual camera. However, I am learning how to use a professional level camera.

Like Atru said plus there's some good control of light going on there in that image - that didn't happen by accident.

Photography is more about your quality of light than any camera you might use.

It's a mix of photoshop and camera. I'm thinking the place was dirty and gritty, but he/she enhanced the image's grittiness and desaturated the color a bit as well as dodged and burned the shadows and highlights.
