I took the waterpump off my engine with the hopes of installing a new water pump. The fan is still attached. How does that come off?

  1. My 79 pickup has four studs on the water pump with four nuts holding on the fan. They are not left hand thread

  2. I believe those 4 bolts steve is talking about are also left hand threaded. If so, you need to turn them the opposite way from what you normally would to loosen them.

  3. You didn't say what year. Old style there are 4 bolts Late model you should see a large nut right behind the fan. These can, and often are, a pain to remove. In the w/p pullley you'll see a couple of holes. These are for a special spanner wrench. See if Auto Zone has that wrench as a loaner. You will also need a wrench big enough to fit the nut. The 2 pieces thread together. Sometimes it's easier to bolt the pump back up to help hold things. Good luck.
