Ok, so I've recently lost a little weight and now my pants don't fit quite right. The waist line is now perfect (rests just on my hips) for me, but the legs (thigh area) and the "crotch" area are now much too baggy. I've made my own clothes before, just not pants. I feel confident that I can do this myself if I could get some pointers on the best method to make these adjustments. Any suggestions and/or patterns are welcome!

  1. Turn the pants inside out and have someone help you pin the pants , so you can see where you need to stitch them up ;)))

  2. Altering the crotch area of pants can be very tricky, and is often a trial-and-error process. You'll need help with the pinning. The seam you'll want to re-sew is the one which goes from one knee up into the crotch and down to the other knee.

Turn the pants inside out, put them on, and start pinching to see how much to remove. Remember to allow for taking the same amount on each leg. Pin, remove and turn right side out, and CAREFULLY try them on. Check that you can sit, bend, stretch, and move easily. They'll be a little bunchy and tight in the crotch, but if they seem about right, remove, turn again, and hand-baste. Trim some of the excess fabric carefully, leaving yourself at least a 1" seam allowance.

Turn and try on again. Repeat the process until they look and fit the way you want (you may need to run out the seam further towards the ankles). Sew a permanent seam, then trim and finish the seams as they were originally. Done!
