I'm starting life at college next week and would like to meet new friends. Problem is, I don't know how to start a conversation or what to say when i walk up to them. I don't even know how you walk up to them.

I need advice about how to talk to a stranger like ice breakers or general conversation to get the ball rolling.

  1. Smile... and be very open and optimistic.

Go up to someone and say Hi! Don't really know much people here...so would you like to give me a run down of this place.

Ask someone the time...or where'd they get the shirt. But smile and be funny. If someone's giving you a standoffish...don't be too bothered...smile and move along. You'll do fine. Just relax and don't worry about it too much or you'll get nervous and clam up! Remember, alot of people will be in your situation and all looking forward to making new friends. Good Luck.

  2. Start by asking some of your classmates what their majors are or why they took this specific class (just something to start a conversation). Also I know this will sound cliche but you will make a lot of friends if you join a club. There's sooo many clubs in college that you should be able to find one for something that you're genuinely interested in. Oh and there are a lot of on campus events that go on so there are many opportunities to meet people there. Good luck and have fun!
