Okay, my parents are very strict about education, im only a sophomore in high school and they are already drilling me about how I need to start thinking about college and all that fun stuff.

I want to go to college, don't get me wrong, but I don't want to go right away. i want to take a year or two off just to find myself and what i really want to do with the rest of my life.

Ho do I bring this up with them with out getting an explosion from them?

  1. just tell them exactly how you just wrote it, be honest.

am thinking about the same thing exept i'm not gonna tell them until then...but i'm sure whatever you do in the future they'll be happy as long as you're happy

  2. tell them ur thoughts ask them not to interupt while u talk after u tell them what u want to do, explain what u said in the first paragraph of the ?, and then to finish it off, say that its ur life an u feel u want to do this

wait a little to be sure u really want that :)

  3. Tell them how you plan to find yourself, are you taking a nanny job in Europe so you can travel to another country and get experience bonding with children so you know if you want to work with children for the rest of your life or do you want to be a waitress and learn how to manage finaces, do you want to be an artist and paint as your living or have you thought that far a head because alot of people find out who they are while attending college which also looks good to future employers.

  4. First of all, you are only a sophomore so you still have a couple years to 'find yourself'. Secondly, your parents will be MUCH more understanding once you get into college. If you get accepted, you can contact the college and tell them to delay your admission for a year or so (if you have a good reason) and most will accept. Then, since you are already in, your parents will be a lot less inclined to sweat it out.

  5. Seeing you're only 10th grade, you may change your mind when it comes to college. I held off for one year and i regretted it. My friend took off only one semester and that's all she needed to get back on track. Parents want the best for their kids, so if your parents keep hounding you, tell them you're thinking of a local college, a community one until you decide what you really want.

  6. Just bring the subject up even if they do get cross they have to respect your views. Just have a word with them calmly and you never know they might come round to the idea.. College can wait :)

  7. They are going to be upset but you just have to tell them how you feel.

Personally I think you should go to school when you graduate. I thought it would be nice to take a year off before I went to college, so I started working and I moved out of my parents house and started paying bills and forgot about school all together then I got pregnant and could support my child on my income and had to go to school so  now I struggle with school work and children.
