  1. Ok. Don't think of touching the parakeet first. Parakeets hate people to touch them and minority of them allow their owners to touch them.

You have to talk to it softly, try to hand feed it and you have to get it up onto your finger- gently thrust your finger on its chest and say "up".

  2. I take it Zigzag doesn't have a parakeet; that would never work with a bird. Your parakeet is afraid of you, force will only make her fear and hate you more, and she'll become more skittish and more defensive of herself. You need to take things slow, a step at a time, making sure she's comfortable with what is going on; your goal is to make her trust you, not force her to do what you want. You can start by offering her yummy things, like millet, holding a sprig up to the bars with your fingers; she'll have to come closer to your hand to get any, but she gets rewarded for doing so. You should also start by perch-training her, by using a spare perch and teaching her to step up onto that; gently place the side of the perch against her belly, low near her feet, and carefully press against her body; as it begins to interfere with her balance she'll step up onto it. Keep the perch firmly in your hand so it doesn't wobble; if it wobbles she'll think it's unstable and will be afraid to try again. Once she's mastered the "step up" command and is comfortable with stepping onto perches, gradually introduce her to your hand.

Keep in mind that even once she is willing to step up onto your hand, most pet birds still don't like to be pet, even when they are hand-tamed; having their wings and bodies touched is alarming for a bird, and only very trustful birds will allow themselves to be pet.

  5. i have the exact same problem with my budgie she always flies across the cage when u try to touch her, just be really gentle and slow and always keep ur other hand in her sight

  6. Do NOT listen to zigzag!!!!! cruelty is not the answer to any question i know of. first of all. you should not be handling the bird if its that frightened of you. spend time around the cage, read her a book, give lots of treats. leave the cage door open, and if she wants to come out on her own, let her. don't reach in for her. if she freaks outside of the cage, stop. don't move until she is safely landed and calm. then carefully go get her and offer her treats. sit by her cage, let her get used to you. she'll come around. teach the step up command when she becomes less frightened and more interesten in you.

  7. you have to stand up to your parrot and show you have authorityy if it tries to bite you hold its beak shut keep doing this when you get close it willeventuallyy behave and will not attack.
