How do you teach a class of ten-twelve year olds to read and write a new languange in one month (4 saturdays)?

This is a saturday school so I only see them every saturday!!! There are boys and girls.

teach them that alphabet, and get them to learn new words....

there should be more classes than just 4. because it takes more than 4 days to learn a language

That's an impossible task. If you've ever tried to learn a new language, you already know that you can't teach anyone to read and write in a new language in one month, even if the class met every day.

If you have four Saturdays with them, teach them some basics - counting to ten. A few simple phrases. Teach them how to order a hot dog in the new language (or whatever the gastronomic equivalent would be in the new language) and do a little geography on the land where that language is spoken. Add a few songs in the new language, and perhaps a little TV if the new language has children's programs that your students could deduce the meaning of, by using the linguistic basics you have taught them.

I really don't think that is possible, it would only give you 4 days of study.  Even if you were meeting with them 5 days a week, learning a new language usually takes more than 4 weeks.  You might be able to get them started IF you send them home with a written assignment to do each day, and give the parents the answers so they can check them.

Obviously that's is an impossible task.   How long did it take them to learn the first one?

Try a realistic goal.  How about teaching them some conversational language relevant to the things they do in their lives.  Teach them the names of things they use daily and sentences for things they need to say.

Why do they need to learn a language in 4 Saturdays?   How much time will they have to spend on homework for this Saturday class?   Will they practice together during the week?

You don't.  

Learning to communicate in a new language takes months to years, depending on the age of the student.  You can do some enrichment stuff with them, but there's no way they're going to be able to communicate in that amount of time.  Generally, a 10-12 yo can become semi-fluent in a couple of years of consistent study.

It's simply not possible.  It takes much longer to learn how to read and write a new language.

Perhaps you can focus on teaching the children conversational phrases in the new language; that would be doable. Since the class meets only on Saturday, encourage them to practice a lot in between classes; you could make/buy audio tapes for them to listen to and charge an additional small fee for the tape.
