... not to jump up to counter level? I have a lab mix and she is tall enough to reach the kitchen counter tops. She takes things like food, sponges and dishes. She grabs the towel that dishes are drying on, knocking all the dishes to the floor just missing her. She jumps up to drink out of soaking pots in the sink. I'm afraid she will jump and put her paw on the stove and get hurt. We have to crate her when we are cooking and have to push everything back so she can't reach.

How do i stop this dangerous behavior?

  2. I have a retriever mix with a similar problem.

It is pretty simple to fix, but you just have to be consistent in correcting her behaivoir.

What you do is, when she jumps up, grasp her under her front paws and quickly put her down so that she can't rest her paws on the counter for more than a second. When you do this say "No" sternly.

Every time she jumps up, do this and in the time of 1-3 months (depends on how consistent you are) she will stop jumping up.

    Good luck with your dog.

  3. Get yourself something that will make a loud noise, like a bike horn, or a can with pebbles. Then you need to keep an eye on her, every time she seems like she is about to climb, make the noise to scare her off, this is called noise aversion, because their hearing is far more sensitive than ours, she will associate the counter tops/stove/table with an annoying noise. You and everybody in the house, just need to be consistent.

    Hope this helps.

  4. im still teaching my dog that

  5. When I was in puppy obedience school with my puppy, they suggested putting balled up tape on the edges of counters and tables so that when the dog reaches up, they learn that doing that results in a bad, sticky feeling on their paws. You could also try a squirt bottle. It's good to use different words for different words. So, instead of saying "No" for everything she does wrong, trying using the word "off" when you don't want her reaching up on the counters.

  6. A loud noise, or a spray bottle with water spray her when she jumps up , dont feed your dog from the bench they tell her that its okay.
