  1. first you need to teach it to sit.  Once you have done this, say 'shake' and hold out your hand.  Unless your dog is very clever, they won't do it first time so then you pick up the dogs paw, shake it whilst saying 'shake' then let it go and reward with a big hug and a biscuit treat.  Just keep doing this and they will start to raise their paw.  Don't say anything except 'shake' though - some people give their dogs whole sentence commands and it just confuses the issue!

  2. pick your dogs pawe up and put it in your hand and say shake  a few times then give him a treat, doo this over and over it should work b/c thats what i did with my dog

  3. grab his paw, say shake. give him a treat. do this like 20 times. then eventually he will start doing it without the treat

  4. just say shake grab his paw and shake then give him a treat

  5. Say heres a hundo, now drop it like its hot.

  6. when he is in sitting position, grab his paw and shake it while saying shake. do that like three times. than make him do it by him self. give him a treat. i was the only one who trained my dog. wile it was the family dog but he loved me more and i was the only one who played, trained and took care of him

  7. put it in the freezer

  8. First you need to teach them to sit, and it's the same idea with learning to shake, or speak...repatition and reward (doggy treats, cheese works great). you should take a beginners obedience class...Call a local dog shelter for recommendations. I took a 6 week class (six sessions) for about $50 and they taught us to sit, shake, lay down, stay, come, wait,  walk properly and more...it is a really good idea to do

  9. make him sit, then pick up his paw a couple times. Every time you pick up his paw, give him a treat. soon he'll know that to get the treat, he has to offter you his paw. soon enough, you can just say "shake" then he'll offer you his paw. then give a treat. takes 5 minutes max to learn for a smart dog like a lab.

  10. Get out the treats get him calm and show him the treat, pick up his paw while saying shake give the treat repeat this a few times each day hopefully he'll catch on and give you his paw himself

  11. repetition and treats is all you need to teach a dog tricks.

call the dog over to you and give him/ her a treat, then push down on its hind quarters and say "SIT" in a fer manor then give the dog a treat and say "good boy/girl"

keep doing that over and over a few times... each few times make the dog wait longer for the treat and encourage it to stay seated.

repetition and treats! works every time .

  12. Tell the dog to sit.  then tell the dog to shake and pick up the dogs paw.  let go of the paw and give it a treat.

Do it 2 or 3 times in a row and then give the dag a breakb  do this every hour or so.  If you do it to many times in a row the dog will become dored and not pay attention.

  13. you get him/her to sit and then you say "shake" then pick up his/her paw! make sure to say it slow but loud enough for him/her to hear!

  14. this is how i do it, it usually works by the end of the day, but it takes a few days/week to be engrained.  i've done it to puppies and adult dogs.

the dog needs to know sit first.  so sit, then work on shake.

i have LOTS of treats and say "shake" and hold his paw in my hand while i give him the treat and while he eats it.  I say "shake" the whole time until he's done eating.

now my dogs see treats and they automatically sit down and put a paw in the air.

after they learn it you can teach them "other hand" by just not giving them the treat and lifting the other hand until they figure it out.

  15. Grab a paw, and shake it while you say the command. Give him a treat right after. Do a few times, then say shake while showing the treat, he should understand. If not repeat the first step a few more times.

  16. Regardless of what people are saying on here, you do not want to grab your dogs paw and say "shake." You are only teaching your dog to allow you to grab his paw, not to actually give you his paw for a shake.

The quickest way to teach this is to have your dog sit in front of you (but the dog does not have to sit to learn this behavior) and hold a treat in your fist. Make sure the dog knows that the treat is there by putting your fist with the treat in it under the dogs nose. Also, make sure that the dog really wants the treat more than anything else.

Then you wait...... the dog will eventually get frustrated and begin to paw at your fist. That is when you reward your dog with the treat. Dogs get this really quick. Once your dog learns the motions of shake, then you can add the cue (say shake).

When your dog masters pawing at your fist on command, you grasp the dog's paw and shake it, then reward for that. Eventually, you will be able to just say "shake" and your dog will raise his paw for your to grab and shake. Simple!
