I just begun leasing a Missouri Fox trotter and they've always ridden him english, and, although he does trot, it takes a while for him to warm up and trot normally for most of the time. Does anyone have any ideas about how to teach him to trot more of the time?

I'm sorry if it doesn't make much sense :P

  1. Fox Trotters walk in the front and trot in the back. Good size set of chains on the front for a little while will help. sometimes they need to be really sore to get the walk in the front and the bounce for the trot in the back.

  2. Try and ask a trainer knowledgeable of the breed.

    I love Trotters <3

    You're very lucky.

  3. Fox trotters shouldn't trot, that's misnomer for the lateral gait they  naturally do.  Why do you even want it to?

  4. i have a tenneesse walker and my trainer said not to teach her to trot because it can mess up their gait, there breed is made to do the runnign walker/ fox trot ect, so if you dont wanna ride a gaited horse because you wanna do something like jumping or anything like that i`d sugguest lessing another horse. good luck=]
