I babysitt my cousin she flunked 1st grade once and flunked 2nd grade twice so now she has to go to second grade again. It's not because she's dumb it's because she was raised in a really bad family. So anywho I'm helping them out by babysitting and teaching her new things. We have a lot of things down but now I need to teach her to write sentences. he could write small ones but she spells things wrong and we need to write bigger sentences too.

Please help.

Thanks and God Bless.

  1. Teach the child to speak in proper sentences and to spell correctly, the rest looks after itself.

  2. get to a real lesson if you can.

  3. I have an idea. Get a few color index cards or white. Have small words that rhyme.

    Example(s):

    bat

    mat

    cat

    sat

    mall

    wall

    tall

    stall

    fall

Then teach the child basic words such as:

    I

    would

    have

    could

    will

    There

    was

    is

    a

    on

    the

    went

Then try to arrange the words in sentences. From the listed words above, here are some possible sentences:

There was a cat on the wall.

    I went to the mall.

Try engaging the child to speak in proper sentences. No more, "Gimme Juice." Tell the child to say "May I get a cup of juice please?" Make sure that the adults around the child emphasizes proper etiquette. You wouldn't want him only saying proper etiquette to you and not anybody else. After teaching him a phrase, teach him how to write it in a sentence. Make words familiar to him.

  4. Start by working on how she speaks.  Does she use nice, proper sentences while she's talking?  If she does, then have her say everything first to form the sentences, then try writing them.  If she doesn't work on that part first.  I know it sounds funny, but the best thing you can do is to read, read, read.  She will learn to hear a good solid sentence and she'll be more likely to use them.  Make cards with letter and teach her what sound each letter makes- this will help with spelling, but the spelling is less important than being able to produce sentences that make sense.  Take her to a local library too- the librarians should have some materials that might help you or more ideas for you.  She is lucky to have you to help her... that is awesome.  Good luck.

  5. I wouldn't worry about the spelling of the words right now.  Teach your cousin the concept of a period and capital letters.  That is a start.  Focus on an idea...like cats.  Ask her to tell you two things she knows about cats.  For example cats like to meow and cats are cute and furry.  Teach her how to put her ideas into sentences (even if they are only 3 word sentences).

Just practice...the more she practices the better.  Have her read to you aloud so she can understand what a sentence looks and sounds like.

  6. I would say just have her practice example sentences and have her read books...reading really helps to become a better writer. Then start telling her to write the sentence down that you tell her...so she can learn the audio and visual aspect of words...I think that could be a start :) Goodluck

  7. you can read with her.
