How do you teach your horse to bow?

  1. Years ago I trained one of our ponies to do a one legged bow (one leg forward, other one bent) by tying up a front leg, then taking halter and lead and from the tied leg side, twisting his head to the other direction.  Lots of patience and time until he figured out what the heck it was I wanted, then just picked up the foot and pulled it back a bit, then progressed to just touching the shoulder.  He was pretty easy to train because he was a kid safe pony to begin with, and was well accustomed to the crazy things kids do.  It did have the undesired side affect that he would occasionally bow down for the farrier when he picked that foot up.....

  3. yeah great idea so that when your horse just randomly starts trying to bow anytime someone gets near his front legs yeah thats great to teach your horse.... A for effort -  F for logic  

  4. this is what i did. take your horses favorite treat and bring your hand down to the ground then in between there two front legs.
