  1. Try geting a book on it.

  2. Don't practice with a sled!  You'll hurt yourself and learn nothing from it except what no control feels like.

Teaching yourself to snowboard is a pretty bad idea.  Every mountain has tons of trained instructors who will be able to get you up and riding and not killing yourself and others on the runsin no time.

  3. No, sleds are definatley a lot different, they dont have bindings, theyre thicker..and yeah it just wouldn't work.

I wouldn't reccomened teaching yourself. I took lessons at a snowboarding place and its a lot easier and you really get the hang of it better.

but if you really don't wanna take lessons, you should go with a friend who knows how and get him/her to give you some pointers.

  4. With a great deal of trouble. Take a set of lessons from a qualified professional instructor, it is easier and faster than trying to learn from no knowledge to a reasonable skill level. Even if you are a skilled snowsport rider, the difference between skiing and boarding is large.  The balance and steering is different and it takes time to make a cross over to the other side.

No, you can not practice on a sled, but take an old empty 2 L pop bottle with the top on tight, and try to stand on it on your snowboard.

  5. Nooo i wouldnt trying practicing with a sled! For one you wouldnt have any edges to carve into the snow...there are no bindings to hold your feet down on a sled...a sled is much wider then a board...and much more flexable...can you say dangerous?! lol...

Take lessons from an instructor or even a friend that boards if they feel that they are qualified enough to teach you... rent your equipment when you get to the slopes...a good instructor will tell you about the parts of the board, teach you how to get up on your feet, how to turn...pretty much teach you all you need to know to get started!

Then if you decide you like snowboarding look into getting yourself your own equipmen...you save money in the long run because the price of renting adds up quick!

Good luck! Its a blast once you get the hang of it!

  6. Ask your parents for to get you some lessons!  Falling down and trying again is the tried and true method for learning how to snowboard.

  7. No you can't practice w/a sled,  sled's are way to wide, don't have any edges or concave...or rocker (w/some of the new boards out lib tech banana sk8!)
