How do you tell a 6 yr old....?

where babies come from? my little cousin came up to me and asked me where babies came from and I dont know how to tell him. One of my friends used to believe that babies came from the bellie button. I used to think that they come out of the mouth-laugh at me later- and I dont know what to tell him. Please help and remember, He is only 6!!

I think you should tell him they come from Mommies anything after that tell him to ask his parents.

You could say babies come from love. You could even say babies come from s*x and when he asks "What is s*x?", tell him to ask his parents.

But I think "from love" would be the safe answer.

It's not really your job to go into details because his parents may not agree with your choice. If I had kids I'd give them a simplified version of the truth. I hate lying to kids about things. I just wouldn't go into clinical detail because it would waste my time and theirs. They wouldn't understand the complete story.

I would not answer that question if I were you. I would let the parents of the child no that he is asking this.  When he asks you i would just say "i dont know that is a question for your mommy and daddy."

as a parent i would not want someone telling my children something that i did not want them to know

I agree with baby boy #3. I have told my boy's when they were little that god plants a seed when you get married and when the baby is ready to be born the doctor gets the baby from the mommy's belly. You cant go into much details with a 6 year old.

Just tell him babies come from God and if he still ask then tell him to go ask his parents. Its tough at that age you have to make sure you say the right thing my four year old says babies come from belly or they just go to the hospital.

It's not your place to tell him.  His parents should be the one's explaining this to him.

Before you take it upon yourself to answer this question, make sure that mom/dad know that the question has been asked.  This is a topic that many parents want to be in control of.  If the parents know, and think you should answer, then start basic.  Tell the six year old that babies grow in mom's tummy.  If they press for more, like how the baby gets out, then tell them that mom's  have a special hole next to their "pee pee" that lets babies come out.
