I know quite a few people who are indian, and I just learned about the dravids and the aryans. And I think that most of them are aryan. Are the aryans the more mideastern looking ones, and the dravids more black looking ones, both I have seen. and some of my neighbors are indian catholic, and the dad is real dark, but looks mideastern, and the family isnt overly dark, and I also know that catholicsm is predominantly in southern india.

  1. Ya.

  2. yes, you can not tell a dravidian from an aryan.

those were terms used by the British colonizers to categorize Indians in different races for their own convenience. They hardly hold any scientific value.

aryans, dravidians - are 'racist' concepts, long proven to be redundant.

'dravidian' as a term is used to identify kinship systems or language families rather than people. Dont try to categorize people on such shallow basis as a 'race'.

  3. The previous answers are all wrong. There are several distinguishing features.

    1. Height Aryan's Tend to be taller as they come from areas which contain relatively low amount of forest.

    2. Facial Structure Dravidian will tend to have round shaped faces as opposed to Aryan which look more European.

    3. Skin Colour Dravidian generally tend to be darker, almost mahogany in colour. But remember that the Sun strenght levels India has meant that you will find dark Aryans as well.

    4. Religion remember that Hinduism between the two "races" is completely different. Roman Catholics in South india were formerly Brahmins who converted to Catholicism.

    5. Language Aryans tend to speak a sanskrit based language whereas Dravidians will tend to speak more Tamil based languages.

Finally there are 3 exceptions to the concept that all South Indians are of the Dravidian race. All South Indian Brahmins are Aryans. Kodavas who are said to be descendants of Scythian soldiers who settle in Kodagu and who converted to Hinduism. Nairs are mercenaries who migrated from the north, possibly descendants of Newars in Nepal, during the Chola-Chera wars.

  4. You cannot.
