  1. okay by looking at their teeth you can not tell the precise age, but you can tell the age group. And the way you do that is you look at how far out the teeth are, and how straight they are. My advise that if you dont understand this and you want to know more then you should but a horse knowledge book. It will most likely tell you. Such as Horses for Dummies

  2. they grow a tooth thats by itself i forgot what its called but its maby an inch away from the last teeth on the bootem row and it comes in when there 4-5 if i remember cercttly and of course if the still got there milk teeth and whaat not sorry iam  not much of any help good luck

  3. i have a poster hanging on my wall showing each age group and what their teeth look like.  if you're a vet, equine denist, work with equines, it's something that is usually learned/taught in school/training/ect.

  4. The AQHA website has some good pictures that might be helpful.  Your vet may also be able to help you determine the age of your horse.

  5. That takes a little practice, but here are the basics:

  6. Its done by looking at aspects of tooth wear which are related to age. Any good equestrian stable management book will explain with pictures / drawings. Its not accurate, and dealers do on occasion file teeth so they look like a younger horses.

  7. Heya

Well its hard to do it yourself without lots of practise but if you get a dentist or vet they can give you a rough age group for the horse. They do it by looking at the teeth to check for things like how worn down they are and if they have lost all the baby ones etc. However i asked the vet the other day how exact they were and she said that over 10 years old it is impossible to give a accurate age for a horse. So if your horse is over 10 and your dentist says that he/she is exactly 17 , they are either guessing or theyve done thier research on the horse. =] x*x
