How do you tell if a finch is going to give birth?

  1. They don't give birth, they lay eggs - but they are some signs you can look for that tell a female is laying, or ready to lay.

    If you're up early in the morning, around day break, and you have a nest in your finch's cage - if she is beginning to lay you will definitely find her in the nest early in the morning.

    If she's not in the nest yet, a sign to look for that tells she's ready to lay, is you'll see her tail visibly bobbing up and down as though she's trying to p**p.  It's a result of the contractions that occur to push the egg through the cloaca.

    It's a subtle thing, though, because their tails will also often do this when they are sleeping or breathing heavily.


  2. ask it if its pregnant.

  3. Birds do not give birth.  They lay eggs.  The eggs will only hatch if they are fertilized.  If you have 2 birds in one cage, then there is a chance the egg can be fertilized.
