  1. The female is bigger than the male and her claws are shorter and stronger than the males.  Also,  the female's shell is straight, the male's shell is concave.  The male has a fatter, longer tail than the female.  Hope this helps.  I've volunteered at a nature center and had to take care of reptiles and other animals.

  2. if its a painting it could be either unless you could contact the creator

  3. If you have an adult turtle, the website below will help you a lot =)

  4. look at the tail. the bump on the end if it is farther twords the tip of the tail it is a male and if it is closer to the shell its a girl. sometimes its easier to compare them. that and the nails are longer on males

  5. if you look in the shell and see if theres somthing wiggling lmao

  6. If a painted turtle is male, it has a slightly larger tail and a doodle.

Red-eared sliders painted, map, yellow bellied, cooters are all the same species wise , they all require the same basic care.  Gender especially juveniles, can be difficult to s*x. Gender in adults is determined by external physical characteristics and behavior. Males have longer fore claws (which are use in courtship), a longer tail length. Males are smaller in size and shell length. Turtles are considered juveniles till after 5 yrs old.

Did you also know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA/UVB for  8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that  they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system!

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They need leafy greens( Romaine, Butter lettuce. Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any leafy greens will do) for vitamins at least 3 to 4 times a week.

And a big tank 55 gallons or more..
