How do you tell if a recently planted a 2 year (ball/root) Eastern Rebud is still alive?

I checked if it was still green (scrap bark with knife) and it is not. It has only been planted for 2 months. Bought it at a nursey. They said it was there in the nursurey for 8 months before it was sold. Is there any chance it is still alive, even though the scratch test was negative?

  1. If the stem was not green, it is probably dead.  You should ask a refund or a replacement from the nursery.

    the redbud should have leaves right now especially since it was planted 2 months ago
