How do you tell if you Ankle sprained?

ok so yesterday i was running and and my foot fell in a hole and i tripped and i was limping arond on it for a hour or more and it really hurts and i put a bag of frozen peas on it and that didn't really help and i get a pain in my ankle when ever i lean on it and today i put ice on it and took some aspiron but i still can barely walk on it

I'm a physical therapist.  Dear, you need to see a doctor, period.  It could be sprained or strained (yes, there is a difference) or broken.  There are 3 degrees of a sprain.  It's just going to be hard to tell without an X-ray.    Keep the ice on it, and keep it elevated for the swelling.  Stay off of it as much as possible, but keep it moving (circles, etc.).  BUT GO TO A DOCTOR.  Especially if it's not better within a few days.  

  3. It's a mild sprain, I severely sprain my ankle not too long ago, like my whole foot was fat and purple. It was pretty ugly. I couldn't even limp if I wanted to, it hurt too much. But after a week i had a chance to limp on it, and gradually it got better. Do the RICE method, and you should be fine in a couple of weeks. I get pretty stupid and stubborn when after getting the chance to limp I was working out my ankle, and trying to get it better, but that isn't reccommended. Sometimes it can damage your ankle more, but for me it didn't. It depends on the body, so RICE method, and rest it without much weight


  4. When you cannot put your own weight on it, it's sprained. But, have it checked by your doctor. Ligaments and tendons can get pulled. And may be serious.
