Ok, tonight I am making sweet and sour pork. The recipe says that the oil (for frying) needs to be at 350 degrees F. How do you tell what the temperature is on a stove?

I have an induction stove if that helps.

  1. If you don't have a thermometer or an electric deep-fryer, test the temperature of the oil by dropping a cube of bread in it: the bread will turn golden brown in 25-30 seconds at 160°C, in 20 seconds at 170°C, in 15 seconds at 180°C and in 10 seconds at 190°C.  -  350 degrees F is 170 in celcius :)  (sorry about all the stuff in celcius, I'm from New Zealand so I only figured out the temperature you needed and not all of them!)  Good luck! ps. I love sweet & sour pork!

  2. no need. you'd need a thermometer for that. Just make sure that your oil is very hot and your sweet and sour pork should be fine.

  3. Any food appliance store caries them, you are looking for what is called a digital candy thermometer.  Or you can use a laser thermometer which tells you the temperature of whatever the laser hits.
