Question:

How do you tell the difference between a dead leave and a dormant leave on a venus fly trap?

i have bdark brown traps on my venus fly trap but i'm not sure if i should cut it off or leave in. i live in socal btw.

  1. Touch a leaf and if the leaf snaps your finger then the leaf is alive.

    OK, just kidding.  Sounds like your Venus Fly Trap has either a fungal or bacterial disease; black or brown spots on leaves are not normal.

It is perfectly normal to have leaves turn black and die off.  Venus Fly Traps are just like any other plant.  Their leaves don't last forever.  Once they turn completely black or brown, you can cut them off.  If there is still any green left on them, then they can still perform photosynthesis, so don't cut those off.
