How do you tell the difference between a girl and boy fish?

i just got a new beta fish for a pet and i dont know if it is a girl or boy how do i name it

For people out there that wants answers on how you can tell the difference between male and female fishes, sometimes they say it's all about the anal fins. But there are other ways to find out the differences. Some species of fish has different variations in colors. The males are usually the more brighter and better looking in color wise. However, this is not necessarily true, some other species of fish like the hog fish, the female is better looking than the male.

For example a saltwater parrot fish, one species of it, the male is a pretty light blue in color while the female is an ugly red color. However, there is a difference in some species. Fishes can actually change s*x over a period of time, thus making it very difficult to identify the s*x of the fish. So keep in mind that it depends on what species of fish that you are looking at.

By naming the species of fish, we have a better understanding and better ways of identifying the s*x of the fish.

A female betta will have short fins, a male will have long flowing fins. Also, a good way to name him/her is to watch the fish for a few days and name him/her on its personality. Example; An aggressive fish may be named Grumpy, or a peaceful fish Hope. It depends on what kind of names you like though.

name it one what color it is (in spanish) i had a purple male guppy that i named morado (purple in spanish)

amarillo — yellow

anaranjado — orange

azul — blue

blanco — white

dorado — golden

gris — gray

cafe — brown

Difference between male and female is that male has long anal fin and brighter color. Female fish has like a 45 degress arc on its anal fin and not as colorful as the male.

Betta fish is very very easy to define.

Male has long tails/fins and has black gills on its head.

Female betta has very very short fin.

most likely you have a boy, because most pet shops don't sell females

mostly fins, color, size, ect... but i wouldnt bother, i just assumed my fish were whatever i chose them to be. it doesn hurt anyone. :)

the female beta  is usually the ugly one the males have big-er fins, better color

Most fish it is very hard to tell, but bettas are pretty easy. The males are very bright and have long beautiful fins versus the females who have shorter fins and are duller in color. hope u find a good name :)
