How do you tell the difference between a girl and boy parakeet?

You look at the nostrils right above their beak.  If it's more of a darkish color then it's a boy if it's more of a lighter color then it's a girl.

you know that wierd thingy just above thier beak? yeah u can tell by that thing.the male's is more blue and the female's is like a tanish.. pail kinda thing

Males have the dark rings and I dont think females have rings...if they do it would be very light in color. Yes it is possible to hand train them if they are not tame, but will take a lot of work! I had 4 parakeets all males.  I don't know what my new one is I'm guessing a male.  So every time I buy a parakeet  its always a male. The thing on their nose is always blue or pink.

The girl one can lay eggs.
