How do you tell when peaches are ripe ?

My peach tree produces lots of peaches but it seems I time it wrong every year Is it color or firmness ? - Do they ripen of the tree ? -- thank you

Press on their tops where the stem is. If it gives and is squishy then they are ripe.

When you can squeeze them and they have no green on them.

when they are fully couloured with no green,,pick them and they will continue to ripen as well .so if you like them hard or soft,up to you..turn to remove them from the branch,don,t pull..
