How do you tell your landlord that your cat has fleas?

I live in a large home sharing it with my landlord (yeah..how wierd is that) and his two cats. I have a cat (she is an indoor) and his cats are outdoor cats. Recently i found bugs in my cats fur. They are fleas. How do I tell my landlord that I think its his cats and that my cat has fleas. We are kind of a good basis. We bake desserts for each other but see each other rarely. I don't want to offend him.

  1. I would tell him asap.  You don't have to blame anyone - just state the facts that you have found fleas on your indoor cat, and his probably has them too since everyone lives in the same house.  You'll have to continue care for at least 6 weeks. First, take the cats to a vet or groomer for a flea dip bath and a treatment of Advantage. You have to treat the house while the cats are gone. Flea powder worked for me - but you have to follow all this up (minus the Advantage) every 10-14 days until the fleas are gone. You have to treat any areas the cats have been in, carpets-beds-pet beds-clothes-anything the flea eggs could be in. The eggs have a 10-14 gestational period, and fleas can lay eggs within minutes of hatching. It's going to be hard - but it can be done. Try to convince the owner to allow the cats to stay in the house and it will lessen chances of re-infestation...not to mention the landlord's cats will actually be healthier.  Good luck.

  2. Fleas are a part of life, cats that go outdoors tend to get fleas unless they  have frontline or other flea deterrent.  I would just tell you landlord that you saw fleas on the cats and that maybe you should get them all treated.  I am sure your landlord has dealt with fleas before.

  3. I wouldn´t tell him anything, just get Frontline for all cats and apply it. If you can´t avoid telling something, then just say it´s time you both protect the cats from "possible" fleas problem.

  4. i think you should ask him if his cats have fleas, because youve noticed some on your cat and know they arent from yours cuz its an indoor... i think its a nicer way of bringing it up. also, you could say youre considering getting flea collars cuz there seems to be a problem thats now affecting your cat.. maybe he'll accept some responsibility.

  5. step 1 - walk to the landlord

    step 2 - greetings

step 3 - 'your cat has fleas mate'

step 4 - get kicked out the house

  6. i would tell him that your cat has fleas so that means his cats must also have flea's, so you should treat all the cats together to get rid of them...saves offense and gets the job done!

  7. I would just treat your cat asap with advantage or frontline first.  Then tell him you noticed fleas on ur cat and treated it and you thought he should know.....too easy.  Keep treating your cat monthly.

  8. Don't worry about offending him. Flees are a big deal! The house probably needs to be fumigated to completely get rid of them. You might try leaving a note saying that you need to talk with him. And then just say straight out, "I found fleas on my cat, and I think it would be safest to treat all three cats to get rid of them."

    Good luck.

  9. Just ask if he has seen the fleas on the cats. and get some agvantage.
